One of BOCA's aims is to teach "how to identify wild birds and understand their behaviour" and BOCA runs a number of meetings, outings and short workshops every year to help birders do just this - both at beginner and more advanced levels. However, BOCA's educational activities are far more wide-ranging than just bird identification - for example - BOCA runs public forums to educate the community to the needs of birds and their habitats, provides teaching resources for School programs from primary to year 10 levels, publishes a number of leaflets on issues relating to birds and birdwatching and workshops on bird photography.
BOCA has its junior branch - the Stickybeaks Club which provides a regular newsletter for the younger members (up to 14 years), runs School holiday activities for kids (and encourages parents or grandparents to join in too - the more the merrier!).
So - come learn with BOCA. There is always something new to find out about the birds in your garden, your local park, your next holiday location. Learn about why birds behave the way they do and about what you can do to assist their conservation. All our educational activities are friendly, hands-on sessions where sharing knowledge and experiences is emphasised. Look in The Bird Observer and in the BOCA Education Calendar for upcoming workshops, study meetings and courses or contact BOCA to find out what your local branch can do to help you.
You can also browse the Frequently Asked Questions list (FAQ) or email BOCA with a question that you'd like to have answered.
