BOCA's Little Blue Birdlist
|
|
A pocket checklist for Australian birdwatchers.
Published by BOCA as BOCA’s Little Blue Birdlist’ 2008
Checklist of the birds of Australia - caters for 12 field trips
Size: 100x150mm Weight: 25g
The Little Blue Birdlist may be purchased from the Blue
Wren Gift Shop.
The book consists a list of the birds (common names only) of Australia in
taxonomic sequence, with 12 convenient columns to check off birds as you see
them on trips, along with a space for notes and a place to record the details of
each trip (location, date/time, weather and habitat type). The small size of the
book means that it fits most pockets! A "must have" for all birdwatching trips Australia wide.
The Little Blue Birdlist contains common names of birds for:
- Australian mainland and Tasmania
- Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands
- Ashmore Reef
- inshore local islands
- Australian continental seas
Lists for other
Australian localities [Boigu, Christmas, Cocos-Keeling, Heard, Macquarie, Saibai
Islands] are not included.
This list of
Australian birds follows the nomenclature, taxonomic order and recommended
English names, of the list prepared by Dr. Leslie Christidis (Head of Sciences
Department, Museum Victoria, Melbourne) and Walter E. Boles (Scientific Officer
in the Ornithology Section and also Collection Manager of Terrestrial
Vertebrates, Australian Museum, Sydney). Several additional species and some
taxonomic name changes are also included from Schodde & Mason (1997, 1999).
Some recently accepted vagrant species have also been added. Where space
permits, previously used names are included in square brackets.

In addition you may download checklists for Australia and the States/Territories
from a number of sources, such as AviBase
and Printable
Bird Checklists, but these are unlikely to be as convenient for field
trips as the "The Little Blue Birdlist", and the taxonomy used may not agree with that used in the Birdlist.
