Search Help
|
|
The search facility works on one or more categories of item, as selected by
the check-boxes.
Select the categories you wish to search in (or the "All
Categories" check-box), then type one or more words
(full or partial) into the text box and press "Submit". The Search
engine will find all occurrences of those words in all of the searchable fields
for the selected categories, and display a list of matching items. Selecting one
of the items in the list will show the full details of the item.
You need to note the following characteristics:
- You may choose whether to find items that contain ANY of the words that you
have searched for or items that contain ALL of the words you have searched
for. You cannot mix the two types of search.
- The search will find the text even if it is in the middle of a word - thus searching for
"cat" will find "catalogue" for example. There is no way to find only whole words.
- The search works on "text" fields.
- You may search for dates in activities - date searches will be ignored on
other categories. You may search by using the terms BEFORE(date) and/or
AFTER(date). The date format can be fairly flexible, such as 5/Jan/05 or
August-25-2005 - month names must be either a 3 character abbreviation or the
full name. The system will accept dates such as 1/2/2005 but this may not be
interpreted as you intend, so it is wisest to use the month name (abbreviated
or in full). If you want to search for activities between dates you must enter
a BEFORE and an AFTER and select the ALL button. Date items may be combined
with text items.
- You may also search for activities during a month by using the item
DURING(month-year). As before the month must be in full or a 3 character
abbreviation.
- You may search for prices, by entering a term such as >50, >=$49.80,
<$80 or <=12.10. Price terms may be combined with other text searches.
Price items will be ignored when searching anything other than the shop - you
cannot search activities/courses at the moment. Price items may be combined
with text items.
- Activities are associated with States and - even though the State is not shown when you look
at an activity - a search for e.g. "Victoria" will find activities in Victoria.
- Similarly Branches are associated with States and Regions, and "Where to Bird" locations
are associated with States, Regions and Branches.
- For search purposes, state names are spelt in full, apart from NSW!
- You can't search the text of any of our leaflets, reports or magazines at the moment.
- If there are too many items in a given category, the search will display the
first few in that category and provide links to get to the remaining items.
